EndGrain: Latest post

This is a random orphan from a mixed lot, but it has a lot of neat little characteristics. It’s pretty much straight sided, but it’s got really long curves at the top and bottom. The tail is very pronounced, which I love. The serif has a bit of an angle from the hand finishing, and it seems like the top of the stroke flares out just slightly. There is a ton of contrast in this stroke, compare the stroke on the right and where it ends on the left.

This is a side grain block, and they aren’t as pretty as end grain blocks in general. The surface is softer, so they tend to wear quickly and get frayed edges and dents in the face. They also don’t have the smooth surface of end grain blocks. There’s a stray bit of red in at the lower left, and you can clearly see the router marks in the counters.
