I have a soft spot for U’s with uneven stroke weights, like this one. It lends asymmetry to an otherwise mirrored letterform. I feel like it gives it a weird sense of dimension, like one side it pushing forward. I don’t know which gothic variant this letterform is from, but I’d guess it’s from an early grotesque style with the thick and thin stroke.

The face is covered with a film of ink and dust, but there are a few slices where the wood creeps through. I think this block is beautiful from a textural standpoint, I love the colors of the wood, the inked surface, and the shoulder. I love the texture of the ink left on the face, and the rough lines where the wood shows, and the small spotted areas of thicker ink. A lovely letterform and a lovely block.
