EndGrain: Latest post

This is an orphaned block that I got with one of my first mixed lots. It might be a condensed version of futura. This style is quite odd, it’s got a different feel from the early grotesque faces, but it doesn’t fit with the uniform weight, geometric modern gothics either. The loop of the 5 is very tall, and the stroke weight varies quite a bit, where the top is pretty straightforward.

The shoulder of this block has red ink (another red numeral!!!! I’ll have to do a poster playing off of that). The face is a nice yellow color, with some dark stains as well. It’s interesting how level the grain is, there isn’t much curvature, especially at the top.

Bethany, I think this 5 belongs to the Poster Gothic series cut by Hamilton. It came in many widths and in solid and outline faces. I’ll double check when I get home this evening.

Thanks for the help, Mr. Wolske, it’d be great if you’re correct and I can properly identify the face!
