EndGrain: Latest post

Doesn’t this 6 look like it’s sporting a crazy pompadour? This is another numeral from the new grotesque set, and like the others it is extremely heavy and has a lot of personality with its thick and thins and exaggerated shapes. The looping top stroke almost feels too heavy for the loop at the bottom, the figure almost seems like it could tip over from the weight. The tiny size of the round counter is almost comical; it’s just floating around in the mass expanse of the stroke.

This block has barely been used, and you can still see some debris left by the router when it was cut. The hand finishing was a bit sloppy, the joint between the bowl and the arm stands out, and it seems like the flat end of the stroke might be a tad uneven. The grain is golden and lovely, untarnished. I’ll have a hard time using block like this, it seems wrong to dirty up something so perfect.
